Carmel is a skilled Family Law practitioner who has been in practice since 1987 and who has extensive experience in general law overall with an emphasis in Family Law. Carmel has an approachable manner and a keen sensitivity to people who are distressed, angry or anxious. Her clients often become very reliant on her for both legal and emotional support.
Carmel has considerable experience in all aspects of Family Law including:
• De Facto & Same Sex disputes
• Children’s matters, both by consent and litigation
• Financial settlements after separation, for both married and de facto couples
• Financial Agreements (often called ‘pre-nuptial agreements’ or ‘pre-nups’) for both married couples and those in de facto relationships
• Spousal maintenance and child support
• Intervention Orders
• Divorce
• General Family Law advice
Carmel’s approach is to attempt to resolve issues with cooperation and to achieve amicable settlements as far as possible. However, she has also had considerable success in running litigation when the other party has refused to be reasonable.
Carmel has both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University and has worked in a broad range of suburban and city based legal firms with a solid background in general law practice which gives her an “edge” when dealing with Family Law matters. She is able to draw on her broad legal knowledge in the family law process.
Outside of work, Carmel is actively involved in the Victorian ice skating community in administration, judging and as a long suffering parent with a daughter competing at international ice dance level. She is also a vocal supporter of the Carlton Football Club and is fluent in spoken Italian, has a good knowledge of written and spoken French and is currently embarking on learning Russian.
